Your Mother's View
by Alice Teeter
Your mother’s view is wide –
a sweeping vista of the valley
with the lake down below,
She can see clouds rolling
across the face of the mountains
across the way, the hawks
ride the air currents –
distant specks.
You have the same view
only smaller, lower,
partially obscured by hillocks
tall oak trees, with acorns
that drop onto your roof
with a bang.
