Preserves
by Midge Goldberg
My dad uses my dreams to age in
now that he’s dead:
in a department store at Christmas,
he holds a bag of salt,
his only purchase,
and cries when they don’t carry
canning supplies in winter
so he can’t get the labels
he needs for me.
