Venus at a Mirror, 1615 by Peter Paul Rubens
by Donald Kuspit
make yourself
inseparable from yourself,
double your beauty
to make
it everlasting,
its bounty
embalmed by the everloving mirror.
my senses fall over themselves
to find a foothold
of feeling on its slippery skin,
my lust hesitates
on the lips of my labored words,
all meaning becomes meteoric
in the cosmos of your flesh.
disappear into my priapic memory,
spoiling the wonder
harvested by your mirror.
