Botanical Drawing
by Laurel Blossom
Fighting in a jungle jumble,
young man far from hearth or help
heard the enemy,
close in, whisper
its flowery, frightening language,
leapt
to hide
inside mimosa, crumpled up,
surprised him
caught,
promised, prayed,
if he got home,
everything on God's green earth
he could
about democracy and plants
he would.
